VORTICE was born in Barcelona on January 2004. The band guidelines on a musical level differ from everything done before by its members, becoming closer to other musical styles like Extreme Metal, Post Metal or Math Metal, as well as drawing on the personal influences of each of its members. Vortice’ s sound is thick, low, heavy and complex.

Between the 6th and 20th of April 2007 the band went to studio to record their debut full length album “HUMAN ENGINE”. It took place at the The Room BCN Studios in Barcelona, produced by Gorka Dresbaj and mastered at the TailorMaid Studios in Sweden by Peter in de Betou (Dimmu Borgir, Enslaved, Meshuggah). The record was released by the Madrid label Holy Cobra Society Records on January 2008 and distributed by PIAS / A NEW LABEL. Human Engine was well received by the musical press and was considered the 4th best National record from 2008 in Rockzone magazine and 5th best metal record for Mondosonoro magazine. Also during 2008 it received rave reviews by different musical Spanish magazines like Rockzone, MondoSonoro, RockHard , RockDeluxe, Rock Estatal and VICE Magazine. As well they were interviewed on TV Spanish musical program “ Loops!” in a metal special with Dave Mustaine from Megadeth. Human Engine was also reviewed by many webzines spread around the world.

Between the 18th May and 15th June of 2009, Vortice went to studio again to record their second record: “ ZOMBIE” . The recording and mixing took place at The Room BCN Studios in Barcelona by Gorka Dresbaj again. This time the mastering was performed by George Marino ( Metallica, Iron Maiden, Ozzy Osbourne) at the Sterling Sound Studios in NYC. Zombie has been released by spanish label KAIOWAS RECORDS on the 5th of April 2010.

The band also obtained endorsements from Jagermeister and Fakie Clothing. Pere Sanchez, Llorenç Puig and David Martin obtained personal endorsements from PAUL REED SMITH guitars, D’Addario Strings, DAR AMPS, SONOR drums and TC Electronics respectively.

Vortice has played live around Spain and continues to do so. They have played with well-known bands like Megadeth, Cavalera Conspiracy, Entombed, Down, Cynic, Between the Buried and Me, Tombs, Red Sparowes , Cult of Luna, Unsane, Maroon, Naerah, Moho, Moksha, Adrift among others and played in the 2008 edition of the ESTRELLA DAMM PRIMAVERA SOUND Festival in Barcelona as well as in the 2010 edition of the RESURRECTION FEST in Viveiro.producing an amazing result.

On July 2011 and after 7 years together and for personal reasons beyond of our control our former singer David left the band. He was replaced by Alex Misas, that also sings for the band Chaaras from Sabadell. We give him a big WELCOME! We will soon announce first show dates for next fall/winter 2011!!

BIO:
VÓRTICE se forma en Barcelona en Enero del 2004. Las directrices de la banda a nivel musical difieren de
todo lo que sus miembros habían hecho anteriormente y se acercan más a estilos como el Prog Metal y el
Math Metal. Desde entonces han conseguido pulir un muro de sonido caracterizado por bases rítmicas
agresivas y gruesas, el uso inteligente y calculado de los compases, y unos riffs tan enormes como para
salir con zumbidos en los oídos.
No será hasta 2007 cuando entren por primera vez en estudio para grabar su disco debut ‘Human
Engine’ (editado por el sello madrileño Holy Cobra Society), con Gorka Dresbaj como ingeniero y
masterizado en los TailorMaid Studios de Suecia (Meshuggah, Dimmu Borgir, Enslaved, Marduk, Nasum,
Nine,...). A parte de las bueanas críticas que reciben en medios como Rockzone, Mondosonoro,
Rockhard, Rockdeluxe, Arto! y Rock Estatal, las oportunidades de directo se suceden y ejercen de
teloneros de Megadeth en su ciudad natal, Barcelona. Además de comparten escenario con otros grandes
nombres de la escena metal internacional como Cavalera Conspiracy, Entombed, Down, Cynic, Between
the Buried and Me, Red Sparowes, Cult of Luna, Berri Txarrak, Unsane… destacando sobre todo su
participación en la edición 2008 de Primavera Sound. Es en aquella misma época cuando comienzan a
ser comparados con los mismísimos Meshuggah cuyo guitarra, Fredrik Thordendal, dice de ellos: "A very
exciting band on a very exciting journey that I will be following very closely".
La relación profesional con Gorka Dresbaj se mantiene en el tiempo, participando éste también en la
grabación de su siguiente album ‘Zombie’ (2009, esta vez en Kaiowas Records), convirtiéndose en una
pieza clave en el desarrollo del sonido de la banda. El tono agresivo y grueso es la base de su sonido y
Gorka Dresbaj lo potencia en éste su siguiente disco. Un álbum feroz y extremadamente cuidado,
dejando el master en manos de George Marino (Metallica, Iron Maiden) en los Sterling Sound Studios de
Nueva York. Durante este periodo la banda consigue endorsements por parte de Jagermeister y Fakie
Clothing, Pedro Sánchez y Llorenç Puig consiguieron endorsement personales con ESP Guitars y SONOR
drums respectivamente.
VÓRTICE, en 2010 ejecutan una actuación memorable en Resurrection Fest por lo que promotores siguen
llamándoles para dar conciertos por toda la península. Sin embargo en Julio de 2011, y después de 7 años
juntos, David Martín (vocalista y miembro original de la banda) abandona el proyecto. En su lugar entra
Alex Misas, que según Alex Yeste (bajo): “dispone de un registro vocal agresivo muy amplio y variado que
permite a la banda poder explorar otro tipo de composiciones y melodías hasta ahora no usadas por la
banda”.Tras un periodo de relativa inactividad por motivos personales, la banda decide a mediados de 2012
encerrarse en el local de ensayo y explorar nuevos caminos musicales que transciendan la etiqueta Djent.
Una apuesta valiente que se verá reflejada en su tercer y próximo álbum (que Alone Records editará a
mediados del 2013) y que en palabras de la propia banda lo definen como: “así como ‘Human Engine’
fue un ejemplo de la variación estilística propia de los inicios de una banda, ‘Zombie’ fue la
consolidación del sonido de VÓRTICE en todos los aspectos y que ha abierto la puerta a este nuevo tercer
disco. Es la misma sensación que queremos obtener con el nuevo disco, aunque estilísticamente no será
tan cerrado como ‘Zombie’. Nos permitiremos explorar nuevos registros, abrir un poco más el sonido y
dar más riqueza a la composición”.
